LOOF , short for Livre Officiel des Origines Félines, is a French organization responsible for managing the registration of purebred cat lines in France. Its role is somewhat similar to that of other organizations such as TICA ( The International Cat Association ) in the United States or the CFA ( Cat Fanciers’ Association ).
If you want your cat to be officially recognized as purebred, you must register it in the Official Book of Feline Origins. This allows you to follow your family tree and confirm your origins.
In addition, the Official Book of Feline Origins sets the standards for each breed of cat by giving in-depth descriptions of their physical traits as well as their behavior . These standards serve as a reference for judges at cat shows and competitions to evaluate cats .
Regarding the choice of first names, this dates back to 1973, when a uniform system of annual letters was introduced for animal names. In total, 20 letters were adopted while excluding those offering limited options, namely: K, Q, W, X, Y, Z.
For the letter “T”, this corresponds to the year 2022 . Therefore, all purebred kittens born this year should have a name starting with the letter T.
Obviously, these are the guidelines set out by the Official Book of Feline Origins, but you are in no way required to follow this rule. Whether it’s 2023 or even 2024, you have complete freedom to choose a first name starting with the letter “T” for your pet , simply because that’s what you prefer.
